The Washington Redskins come out west to the StubHub Center to take on the Los Angeles Chargers in interesting week 14 action. The Redskins are coming off the long week, following a Thursday Night Football loss to the Dallas Cowboys. They were beaten fairly routinely, 38-14, and at 5-7, it's hard to find the silver lining in what has been an erratic and not particularly successful season thus far for the ‘Skins. They now face their second straight road game in faraway trip across the country and conference against a Chargers team that suddenly has a lot to play for. After an 0-4 start, they have won 6 of 8 and are now tied for the best record in the AFC West. On Sunday, they were able to beat the Browns, 19-10. With three straight wins, the Bolts are hot and look to thrive in their second straight home game.

The Redskins haven't been able to get on a roll this season, despite some positive signs along the way. They have beaten the Rams and the Seahawks on the road this season, while nearly doing the same to the Saints. So they have shown they can be tough in what looks to be really difficult road spots. But they got swept by the Eagles and Cowboys, blew what should have been a win at New Orleans, and just haven't been consistent enough to be a contender. But even so, they are dangerous, with a vital aerial attack and some positive developments on the ground, as well. The defense is inconsistent, ranging from downright exploitable to respectable. They will really need to come up with some answers this week.

The Redskins offense has been disappointing on occasion this season. They have a prolific quarterback in Kirk Cousins with a gaggle of capable ball-catchers. But it's a faceless group, with no one really stepping up to become the go-to guy. With talent like Jamison Crowder, Josh Doctson, Ryan Grant, Vernon Davis, and others, they have the ability to be a consistent terror on offense, but no one has really stepped up to be the star of this offense. Though bottled up some against Dallas, rookie running back Samaje Perine has put forth some big games lately, while also showing he can be a useful target aerially. The Redskins offense just hasn't turned over this season the way it was supposed to.

The Redskins defense has been banged up all season. On Thursday, linebackers Zach Vigil and Zach Brown both left the game and are iffy for this week. They've really been hit by the injury bug in the middle all season, with Ryan Kerrigan still in there rushing the passer and making plays. The play up front with Stacy McGee, Ziggy Hood, and Matt Ioannidis has been so-so, as they've been exploited against the run. CB Kendall Fuller has four picks, while DJ Swearinger has three, but there has been some dodgy play in the secondary recently. They did, however, hold the Cowboys to 104 yards on Thursday. They will need to come up with something big this week against a home Chargers offense.

After Kansas City started as well as they did with the Chargers starting 0-4, the division looked to be a lost cause. Here the Chargers are in week 14 tied with the Raiders and Chiefs at 6-6, looking to take another step forward and looking better than both of their division competitors as of late. Sunday wasn't their best showing, as beating the winless Browns was more of a struggle than some had envisioned. But with some losses that could be wins, the Chargers have started to command more respect and will be tough on the incoming Redskins this week.

The Chargers' offense was pretty solid on Sunday, though 19 points is pretty light for 429 yards of total offense especially with no turnovers. And looking forward, they will need to be a lot better in the red-zone if they want to really go places this season. Philip Rivers has been a lot better in recent weeks and threw for 344 yards on Sunday. Keenan Allen has been on fire in recent weeks and had ten catches and a score on Sunday. TE Hunter Henry and WR Travis Benjamin were both effective on Sunday. RB Melvin Gordon ran for 77 yards and caught 4 passes. In the past month or so, the offense has been able to make better use of its weapons, though Sunday wasn't a great day as far as seeing things through.

The Chargers' defense is the real culprit for the Chargers' turnaround this season. In their last seven games, they have given up a combined 97 points. That includes only a total of 16 points in their last two games. Joey Bosa had another sack on Sunday. S Jahleel Addae was big again on Sunday, with reserve safety Adrian Phillips picking off a pass. With the play of Casey Hayward and Tre Boston, the secondary has been top-notch this season for the Chargers. Denzel Perryman is back in the middle doing damage and we're starting to see a defense that is peaking after being carefully-constructed over the course of the last several seasons.

Nothing is easy for the Chargers. Even on Sunday, it wasn't hard to picture a better team beating that particular Bolts' squad. Luckily for them, it was Cleveland on the other sideline on Sunday or they could have been in trouble. Still, this looks to be a good spot for a Chargers' team that is riding high. A lot of different components of this matchup appear to be in the Chargers' favor. With that said, there is a lack of appeal betting on the Chargers as substantial favorites, as we saw last week. It's never as easy at it looks. I'm taking the points.
