The Philadelphia Eagles come to AT&T Stadium to take on the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. Neither team is seeing the results they had hoped the 2019 regular season would bring. On Sunday, bad losses by each team should have them vying hard for a win this week, as the loser would fall under the .500 mark. Luckily for both, no one in the NFC East is running away with it, but continuing on this slide will make it hard. On Sunday, the Eagles lost badly to the Vikings, 38-20, failing to build on two straight wins that they had hoped would right the ship after a rough start. Dallas, meanwhile, fell to the Jets, 24-22, becoming the first team to lose to them this season. With three losses in a row, the promise of a 3-0 start has evaporated and they are in crisis-mode heading into week 7.

This is a pretty rough stretch for the Eagles and how well they do here will go along way toward determining the trajectory of their entire season. After opening at home, five of their next seven games would come on the road and there’s smack-dab in the middle of that trying stretch. After going into Atlanta, Green Bay, and then Minnesota last week, they now come into Dallas and the next week they have to Buffalo for their third road game in as many weeks. So as they’re trying to right the ship of the season, it’s hard when you’re in another stadium every week. And we’ve noticed that Carson Wentz record as a starter at home versus road games is a big difference—something to think about as Philly is in the midst of a road-stretch that would test even the best teams.

After scoring 66 points in the last two games, the 20 the Eagles came up with against the Vikings was a letdown. Three turnovers didn’t help, nor did a slew of mistakes by almost all involved. They moved the ball well in spots, but couldn’t really follow through, with something always going wrong in a pinch. They’ve missed some guys this season and it just seems like the offense hasn’t completely warmed up. On Sunday, Miles Sanders, Alshon Jeffery, Zach Ertz, Dallas Goebert, and Nelson Agholor were all over 40 yards receiving. The run-game with Jordan Howard hasn’t been overwhelming and the vaunted offensive line has been a bit lackluster. Can the heightened urgency help that?

Sure, it was a tough spot being in Minnesota on Sunday, but to make Kirk Cousins look like a master and to give up almost 450 yards of total offense was a bad development for the Eagles defense. They gave up some big runs, but weren’t so bad against a Minnesota run-game that can do damage. But through the air, Cousins operated with ease against a maligned Philly secondary that is one of the worst in the conference through six games. Cousins had 333 yards and four TDs, with Stefon Diggs going for an absurd 167 yards and 3 touchdowns. The secondary with Sidney Jones, Rodney McLeod, Rasul Douglas, and Malcolm Jenkins need to get it together. And other than Brandon Graham getting a sack, they need to amp up the pressure up-front.

At least Philly has gotten a win recently, but the Cowboys lost their third in a row—a demoralizing defeat to the New York Jets. It would be one thing if penalties or turnovers were the culprit, but they just got outplayed by the Jets all around, making a late push, but largely dominated for most of the game. Having injuries in key positions doesn’t help. As of press time, it’s still a bit unclear how it will shake out, but missing two tackles isn’t helping the Dallas offense. The receiver crew is banged-up, with Randall Cobb and Amari Cooper’s statuses unknown for this game. On the other side of the ball, they saw both corners leave the game against the Jets. So it’s not like they don’t have excuses for their recent plunge in form. Still, it’s been a little startling.

The Dallas offense hasn’t been firing on all cylinders recently. The issues on the O-line don’t help, nor do the personnel deficits aerially. Nothing against Tavon Wilson or Jason Witten, but when they’re taking the lead aerially, it says a lot. Ezekiel Elliott has 105 yards, but it took his 28 carries to do it, though he added five useful catches on Sunday. But after scoring 97 combined points in their first three games (3-0), they have seen the offense regress to the point where they scored just a combined 56 points in their last three games (0-3).

The Dallas defense hasn’t kept pace, either, though not getting help on the other side of the ball has contributed. They are still getting good play in some areas. Robert Quinn has really delivered since returning, adding a fierce pass-rush. He had two sacks on Sunday in a lone Dallas defense highlight. But in the last few weeks, they’ve varied between being flimsy against the pass and then the rush. On Sunday, it was against the pass—something they better not repeat against an anxious Philly offense this week at home.

Both teams have to be feeling the heat. I think the Eagles’ issues run deep and being in the midst of this brutal run, it’s hard to find relief. But at least they’re somewhat intact. Sure, they have injuries too, but they’ve had time to acclimate, while the Cowboys’ injuries just keep piling up. I picture a close game at AT&T Stadium, where there isn’t much to separate the teams. With a toss-up feel to it, I’m inclined to take the points. I’ll take the Eagles.
