Lootmeister College Football Archives: November 2016 Through Championship Game

Clemson Tigers vs. Alabama Crimson Tide Pick – The Clemson Tigers face the Alabama Crimson Tide in the CFP Championship Game from Raymond James Stadium on January 9. It's a rematch from last season's 45-40 Alabama win over Clemson in the inaugural College Football Playoff. Both teams hammered their opponents in their Devember 31 semifinal games, with ‘Bama crushing Washington, while Clemson shut out Ohio State in stunning fashion. Alabama's defense is of almost-mythic proportions, but Clemson is peaking and showed last season that they can hang with the Tide. What happens in this season's title game? Loot offers his take here. (8:30PM EST) – 1/9

Auburn Tigers vs. Oklahoma Sooners Pick – In the Sugar Bowl from the Superdome in New Orleans, the Auburn Tigers of the SEC take on the Big 12's Oklahoma Sooners on January 2. The Tigers had a good run this season, though it didn't end on the best of notes. They still look to parlay a good defense and running game for the big bowl win on the 2nd. The Sooners started the season at 1-2, before winning nine straight to end the regular season. Can they end their season in style or will they run into trouble at the Superdome from the Tigers? Loot breaks it down here. (8:30PM EST) – 1/2

USC Trojans vs. Penn State Nittany Lions Pick – In the Rose Bowl, the USC Trojans face the Penn State Nittany Lions on January 2. If this were any other sport, these two would be among the favorites to become the champions, but after rough starts to the season, they are left to take it out on each other in the Rose Bowl. USC has been on a big roll, running roughshod over the Pac-12. Meanwhile, the Nittany Lions revived the program with a Big Ten title, also ending the season with a big winning streak. Who can get it done and cover the spread in Pasadena? Loot offers his breakdown and selection ATS here. (5PM EST) – 1/2

Western Michigan Broncos vs. Wisconsin Badgers Pick – In the Cotton Bowl, the Western Michigan Broncos face the Wisconsin Badgers on January 2. The Broncos had to do something special to get to the Cotton Bowl out of the MAC, going 13-0 this season and looking for their stamp of legitimacy in this bowl spot. To do it, they'll have to beat a 10-win Badgers team that hung in there with some of the best teams in the country this season. Who can get the job done and cover the spread in Arlington? Loot breaks the game down and offers his pick here. (1PM EST) – 1/2

Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Clemson Tigers Pick – The Ohio State Buckeyes take on the Clemson Tigers in the Fiesta Bowl, as both teams duke it out in the CFP Semifinal to see who gets to the final game. This game will be in Phoenix on December 31, immediately after the first semi between Washington and ‘Bama. Both teams have just one narrow loss on the season, with a list of traits that should play well off each other in this match-up. The Ohio State Buckeyes parlay a deep and potent ground game with a stout and playmaking defense, while Clemson relies on defensive balance and a high-flying attack led by Deshaun Watson, in addition the experience from being in the CFP last season. Who can get it done on December 31? (7PM EST) – 12/31

Washington Huskies vs. Alabama Crimson Tide Pick – The Washington Huskies take on the unbeaten defending champion Alabama Crimson Tide in the Peach Bowl, which is also the College Football Playoff Semifinal, on December 31. The Huskies are the kings of the West this season and represent a stiff challenge to the Tide. It's just that Alabama boasts of one of the best defenses ever seen at this level and it's hard to argue with their dominant results this season, where only two teams surpassed 16 points of scoring. Can Washington hang in there and give ‘Bama a run for their money? Or will the undefeated CFP champs from last season cruise en route to the final? Loot gives his take here. (3PM EST) – 12/31

LSU Tigers vs. Louisville Cardinals Pick – In the Citrus Bowl, the LSU Tigers take on the Louisville Cardinals on December 31 in Orlando. While Louisville was the far-more celebrated team this season, at one point highly-ranked with Heisman winner Lamar Jackson making a big splash, they are the underdog in this game. That's because LSU ended the season well, while Louisville floundered at the end and might be dealing with a letdown factor in this spot. Who gets the cover in Orlando? Loot breaks the game down with his pick here. (11AM EST) – 12/31

North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Stanford Cardinal Pick – In the Sun Bowl fron El Paso, the North Carolina Tar Heels take on the Stanford Cardinal on December 30. With five straight wins to end the season, some people lost sight of the Cardinal after a tough start to the season. They have whipped it into shape and should provide a stern test to a dangerous North Carolina team that had some nice highlights this season, despite an uneven end to the season. In what should be a well-played game, which team will cover the spread? Loot offers his betting guidance in this article. (2PM EST) – 12/30

Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Colorado Buffaloes Pick – The Oklahoma State Cowboys meet the Colorado Buffaloes in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio on December 29. Oklahoma State quietly had a pretty effective season, led by Mason Rudolph and a potent aerial attack. Colorado, meanwhile, may have come up short in the Pac-12 title game, but the fact that they even made it there makes this a transcendant season for the long-suffering Buffaloes. Can they close the season with style? Or will Oklahoma State spoil the party? Loot offers his take and wagering counsel in this article. (9PM EST) – 12/29

Kansas State Wildcats vs. Texas A&M Aggies Pick – In the Texas Bowl, the Kansas State Wildcats take on the Texas A&M Aggies on December 28 at NRG Stadium. The Aggies once again saw their season get away from them a bit after a great start that saw them ranked as high as 6th at one point. Kansas State, meanwhile, has been more under-the-radar, but quietly ended their season in good form with 5 wins in their last 6 games. Can Texas A&M end their season on a winning note in their home state? Or will KSU cap off a quietly-effective season with a big bowl win? Loot breaks it down in this piece. (9PM EST) – 12/28

Northwestern Wildcats vs. Pittsburgh Panthers Pick – In the Pinstripe Bowl from Yankee Stadium, the Northwestern Wildcats take on the Pittsburgh Panthers. The Wildcats overcame a terrible start to the season to get to a bowl game and represent a tough opponent, even for a Pittsburgh team that had some big highlights this season. The Panthers had some ups and downs this season, but beat two teams in Penn State and Clemson who are in the top five in the country. Can Pittsburgh use its high-scoring offense to good affect or will the more-balanced Wildcats get the job done? Loot breaks it all down here. (2PM EST) – 12/28

Baylor Bears vs. Boise State Broncos Pick – In the Cactus Bowl, the Baylor Bears meet the Boise State Broncos at Chase Field in Phoenix on December 27. The Bears started the season at 6-0 before losing their last 6 games to end up in this bowl spot. They will be taking on a 10-win Boise team that ran into a few issues late in the season, but still put together a good year. Can Baylor come back for this game and make a positive last statement or are they just waiting for 2016 to be over? And will a ten-win Boise State be let down playing in this bowl game against this particular opponent? Loot offers his ATS advice here. (10:15PM EST) – 12/17

BYU Cougars vs. Wyoming Cowboys Pick – In the Poinsettia Bowl from San Diego, the BYU Cougars take on the Wyoming Cowboys. After suffering some painfully-close losses in the early part of the season, the Cougars have won 4 straight and enter this bowl game with some nice momentum. Meanwhile, the Cowboys were conference runner-ups in the Mountain West after reviving their program after a rough patch of seasons. In an interesting matchup, who can get the cover in San Diego? Loot breaks down the game here. (9PM EST) – 12/21

Central Michigan Chippewas vs. Tulsa Golden Hurricane Pick – In the Miami Beach Bowl at Marlins Park on the 19th, the Central Michigan Chippewas take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. CMU was 6-6 on the season, but didn't end the season the way they would have liked to. They will call on all their scrappiness to take on a 9-win Tulsa team that ended the season strongly, with both of their more-recent losses by ultra-slim margins. Can CMU keep this one competitive or will Tulsa cruise to a conclusive bowl win? Loot offers his ATS take in this article. (2:30PM EST) – 12/19

Houston Cougars vs. San Diego State Aztecs Pick – In the Las Vegas Bowl from Sam Boyd Stadium on the 17th, the Houston Cougars take on the San Diego State Aztecs. The Aztecs were Mountain West champions, though they ended the season in dicey form, as opposed to the fine form they showed at times throughout the season. The Cougars didn't finish that strong either and could be facing a letdown factor with their coach departed and without the most-favorable bowl placement. Who can get the cover in Vegas? (3:30PM EST) – 12/17

Army Black Knights vs. Navy Midshipmen Pick – The Army Black Knights meet the Navy Midshipmen on Saturday at MT&T Stadium for the 117th installment of the Army-Navy game. Army was an improved 6-5 this season and enter this game in a little better shape than is usually the case. Navy, in the middle of a good season, suffered a really bad loss in the AAC title game to Temple, losing their starting QB and two of their top backs. Can Navy win this game and continue their dominance of Army or will the Black Knights be able to exploit a depleted Navy team and get their first win in this game since 2001? Loot offers his take here. (3PM EST) – 12/10

Penn State Nittany Lions vs. Wisconsin Badgers Pick – In the Big Ten Championship Game, the Penn State Nittany Lions face the Wisconsin Badgers at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indy. Both teams are looking to add a huge gem to their 2016 resumes. For Penn State, they defied the odds to get to this spot and won the tiebreaker with Ohio State based on their win over the Buckeyes to get here. The Nittany Lions look to finish the season strong after returning to the ranks of the Big Ten hieracrchy. The Badgers, meanwhile, have won 6 straight and enter this game in fine form, as they try to cap off a good bounce-back season for the program. Who can get it done on Saturday? (8PM EST) – 12/3

Clemson Tigers vs. Virginia Tech Hokies Pick – In the ACC title game, the Clemson Tigers and Virginia Tech Hokies meet in Orlando on Saturday at Camping World Stadium. The Hokies look to add a huge win to what has been a big bounce-back season under first-year coach Justin Fuente. But Clemson is dealing with even bigger stakes with a spot in the College Football Playoff at stake. At 11-1, they look to add the conference title to their resume, as the defending CFP runner-up looks to get back to the big dance. Who can get the job done on Saturday? Loot gives his two cents here. (8PM EST) – 12/3

Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Florida Gators Pick – In the SEC championship game, the Alabama Crimson Tide face the Florida Gators at the Georgia Dome. The unbeaten Crimson Tide are the top-ranked defending champions, looking to repeat. In Florida, they face one of the toughest defenses in the nation. With the spread being pretty big for this conference title game, can the Gators keep the Tide under wraps and get the cover? Or will ‘Bama dominate en route to the College Football Playoff? Loot breaks the game down and offers his ATS take here. (4PM EST) – 12/3

Colorado Buffaloes vs. Washington Huskies Pick – The Colorado Buffaloes meet the Washington Huskies at Levi's Stadium on Friday in the Pac-12 Championship Game. The Buffaloes look to add a signature win to what has been a renaissance season for the program, as the longshot Buffaloes won the Pac-12 South against all odds. To do so, they will need to derail a Washington team that is 11-1 and has their eyes on a spot in the College Football Playoff. It should be a good one from Santa Clara. Who covers the spread? Loot breaks down the game here and offers his pick. (9PM EST) – 12/2

Utah Utes vs. Colorado Buffaloes Pick – In a big Pac-12 matchup from Boulder, the Utah Utes come to face the Colorado Buffaloes at Folsom Field. Utah is looking to bounce back from a disastrous loss to a 3-win Oregon team last week, a defeat that took them out of conference contention. Meanwhile, the Buffaloes control their own destiny and can win the Pac-12 South with a win this week at home. Who can finish the regular season strong on Saturday. Loot breaks it all down here. (7:30PM EST) – 11/26

Auburn Tigers vs. Alabama Crimson Tide Pick – In a SEC battle from Tuscaloosa, the Auburn Tigers visit the top rated defending champion Alabama Crimson Tide. Alabama looks to add another win to their unbeaten record, as they build toward the College Football Playoff. Standing in their way is an Auburn team that has made measurable gains in 2016. The spread is pretty big, so who can get the cover at Bryant-Denny Stadium this week? Loot breaks down the game in this article. (3:30PM EST) – 11/26

Michigan Wolverines vs. Ohio State Buckeyes Pick – In a big one from Columbus on Saturday, the Michigan Wolverines come to face the Ohio State Buckeyes. This game could determine a conference champion, while also playing a role on the national scene. These one-loss teams both have their sights set on big things and only one can have it in one of the sport's most storied and enduring rivalries. Loot breaks down the game and offers his wagering advice in this article. (12PM EST) – 11/26

Washington Huskies vs. Washington State Cougars Pick – The “Apple Bowl” holds special significance, as the Washington Huskies come to Pullman on Friday to face the Washington State Cougars. This season, the division is at stake, with the winner of this game taking the Pac-12 North and going to the title game. For Washington, a win here would also keep them in the CFP hunt. The ramifications are far-reaching this week, both in the conference and the national stage. Who can emerge the winner on Friday in this one? (3:30PM EST) – 11/25

USC Trojans vs. UCLA Bruins Pick – In the battle for LA at the Rose Bowl on Saturday, the USC Trojans face the UCLA Bruins. The Trojans are flying high after scoring their 6th win a row over highly-ranked Washington. But there's something about these rivalry games where you can throw the records out. Even as UCLA has struggled massively this season, they look to give the Trojans a run for their money. Who gets the cover in this one? (10:30PM EST) – 11/19

Louisville Cardinals vs. Houston Cougars Pick – On Thursday, the Louisville Cardinals come to TDECU Stadium to face the Houston Cougars. With some major events this past weekend at the top of the rankings, the Cardinals suddenly find themselves smack-dab in the College Football Playoff mix. Standing in their way is a Houston team that has had their struggles this season after a big start, but is still an 8-2 team that beat the Cardinals last season. Can Lamar Jackson and Louisville get it done this season or will Houston again give them all they can handle? Loot opines in this piece. (8PM EST) – 11/17

USC Trojans vs. Washington Huskies Pick – The USC Trojans vs. Washington Huskies is one of the big games on the schedule this upcoming week, a genuine heavyweight Pac-12 matchup at Husky Stadium with the 9-0 Huskies hosting the streaking Trojans. USC has looked reborn in their last five games, as both sides of the ball have sprung to life with redshirt freshman Sam Darnold pumping a ton of wind into the Trojans' sails. But the Huskies thrashed Cal last week and look to be peaking at the right game with some season-defining games coming up. Can the Trojans give the Huskies a game or will Washington cruise at home? (7:30PM EST) – 11/12

Boston College Eagles vs. Florida State Seminoles Pick – In Friday ACC action, the Boston College Eagles come into Doak Campbell Stadium to face the Florida State Seminoles. Boston College is coming off a rough outing against Louisville, where they were run over by the Cardinals and Lamar Jackson. They look for better this week against Florida State. On Saturday, the Seminoles barely skated by a team that BC beat in North Carolina State. Will FSU kick it into high gear at home or can the Eagles give them something to think about? Loot offers his against-the-spread advice in this article. (7:30PM EST) – 11/11

Utah Utes vs. Arizona State Sun Devils Pick – On Thursday, Pac-12 action comes to Dun Devil Stadium, with the Utah Utes facing Arizona State. Utah is still in the mix for some potentially big things at 7-2, but before they can think about that, they have to get by ASU. The Sun Devils had last week off and hopefully figured some things out following a 3-game losing streak. They can be dangerous, especially at home. So who covers the spread on Thursday? (9:30PM EST) – 11/10

Western Michigan Broncos vs. Kent State Golden Flashes Pick – In MAC Action on Tuesday, the cream of the conference, the 9-0 Western Michigan Broncos, come into Dix Stadium to face the Kent State Golden Flashes. WMU is on a big-time roll this season with nine straight wins, led by excellent 4th-year starter Zack Terrell. They look to make it ten in a row this week at Kent State. The Golden Flashes certainly have their share of issues with only three wins this season, but they have been surprisingly scrappy in spots and are getting a big number at home on Tuesday. Who covers the spread in this one? (7:30PM EST) – 11/8

Washington Huskies vs. California Golden Bears Pick – On Saturday in Pac-12 action from Berkeley, the Washington Huskies take on the California Golden Bears. Washington is 8-0 and starting to hone in on some potential big things. But the Cal Bears are a dangerous team and can really turn it loose offensively, making this a dangerous potential pitfall for the Huskies. Who comes out ahead in this one and for our purposes, who covers the spread? Loot chimes in here. (10:30PM EST) – 11/5

Alabama Crimson Tide vs. LSU Tigers Pick – In a heavyweight SEC matchup on Saturday, the top-ranked defending champion Alabama Crimson Tide come to Baton Rouge to face the LSU Tigers. ‘Bama is unbeaten and poised to get a shot to defend their title win from last season. But the Tigers have been quietly showing better form and are tough at home, so who knows? Can the Tide keep on rolling or will the Tigers give them soemthing to think about on Saturday? Loot offers his ATS pick in this article. (8PM EST) – 11/5

UCLA Bruins vs. Colorado Buffaloes Pick – On Thursday night in Pac-12 action, the UCLA Bruins come into Boulder to face the Colorado Buffaloes. UCLA is only 1-4 in conference and without Josh Rosen. Can they somehow get their season on the right track? To do so, they will have to come into a difficult locale and upend a hot Buffaloes bunch that is coming off a road win over Stanford. After years of struggle, Colorado has finally found some good momentum at 6-2 and having covered all their spreads this season. Who covers the spread in Boulder this week? (9PM EST) – 11/3
